Cyclodextrin is a naturally derived soluble fiber with a hollow, ring-shaped structure. The opening captures dietary fat and carbohydrate molecules. Because the body cannot break apart cyclodextrin, the bound contents pass through intact rather than being absorbed.

Inside the digestive tract, the ring-shaped fiber captures fat and carb molecules. They fit inside the cavity the way a key fits a lock. The binding happens before absorption can occur.
The fiber and its captured contents move through the digestive tract unabsorbed. They exit the body, so their calories and carbs bound to the fiber are not available for storage.

An independent, double-blind crossover study at the Applied Science and Performance Institute in Tampa, FL tested one 12-oz jar of peanut butter daily for 14 days. Same total calories in both arms. The groups differed only in the fiber.
DXA measurement. Same calories in both arms. Difference was statistically significant (p = 0.05, 95% CI 0.11 to 1.88 kg). Sample size is small (n = 6); crossover design compensates because each subject was their own control.
